What’s The Procedure To Getting Dental Veneers?

DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT PLANNING

In the first step you have to talk to your doctor about your goals and the result you are trying to achieve. That way your doctor can explain if your goal may actually be achievable with dental veneers. If they are, they will have to take x-rays of your teeth and make impressions of your teeth. Veneers do not correct some of the underlying problems that may be present; they are only an aesthetic procedure to help your teeth look better.

PREPARATION

If veneers are right for you, your dentist will file down the enamel of your tooth about 1/2 a millimeter, which is the width of the actual veneer. You will need local anesthesia for the procedure. After this is done, your dentist will make impressions of your teeth and will send those impressions to a lab where they will create your veneers. This process takes about 2 weeks. If you want to, provisional veneers can be placed on your tooth so that it does not look bad.

BONDING

Before your dentist permanently places your veneer in place, he or she will have to file it down and remove and trim any excess material so that the veneer fits perfectly. Next, your tooth will have to be prepared to receive the veneer by cleaning it, polishing it, and etching it. S special kind of cement will be applied to the tooth and the veneer will be placed on top of it. After the veneer is in place, your doctor will aply a special light that allows the cement to dry (curate) faster. After this, the doctor will remove any excess cement and make sure your bite is correct and in case it is not, he or she will make the proper adjustments.

You may need to come back for a follow up visit to check up on your gums and how they are reacting to the veneer.
